As usual, stories from Pramoedya are always excellent. Though in this one, it's a bit different from the history I'd been thaught when in elementary.The only thing that a bit disturbing about this book is the translation/editing. This one has been translated by Max Lane. I found many words were not quite right; not to mention many wrong typing mistakes...Nevertheless, I did still enjoy the story.

This is the first book that make me know what kind of socio-realism fiction is. this book makes me in love with Pramoedya. how he described the rebellion of Ken Arok which was really different with what I known before. since I was child, my parents gave books to make me love reading. one of the book is about Ken Arok from myth point of view. for many years it was I believed. the succeeded of Arok's rebellion was because of Gandring's keris. therefore, I got confused when I read Toer's Arok
