Lorin Helfenstein 10-16-2013 Period 4 Never Die EasyThe book Never Die Easy is an autobiography about Walter Peyton told by Walter Peyton, family, friends, and others that were close to him. I really enjoyed the style of this book. The book was told from different perspectives, which I found to be easy to read and it gives you more than just perspective of a story. The beginning of the book talks about Walters death. The next part of the book is about Walter growing up, his high school career,inspiring book about a prodigious athletic talent that approached life with humility and compassion. while not without his flaws, payton was a man who never took the easy way out and earned every ounce of his legacy ... 'sweetness' as he was fondly known is one of my favorite all-time sports figures for good reason.
As a Chicago Bears fan, especially an 85 Bears fan, this was a book I had wanted to read for quite some time. I enjoyed reading all about the man, not just the football player we all know and admire. I enjoyed hearing about the man, the friend, the husband, the father, from childhood to Hall of Famer and beyond.It should be noted that although this is Walter Payton's autobiography, less than half of the book are his words. Probably my favorite athlete of all time, and I appreciated the things I learned about his charity work and his life outside of football. I'm not crazy about how it is written. It is mostly transcribed interviews of Payton, his family, and those that knew him but seems to get a bit repetitive and turns him into a god among men (it is a biography after all, haha). Though I'm a huge fan, I'm going to look for a more critical biography because the man is better than the legend.
