Awakening the Fire popped up on my radar after a GR friend reviewed it. It's been awhile since a new urban fantasy series has perked my interest. For being the first book in a series, I was surprised that there were very few things to become frustrated about. IMO, the author did a great job connecting me with the important characters, giving you a feel for the secondary characters, and gave enough information to give you a sense of the world. Just enough and not too overwhelming. Some smallIn Riverdale, two communities live parallel lives the world of humans and the Otherworld of vampires, witches, elves, nymphs and werecreatures. Ari is a Guardian. She is also a witch but there is nothing twitchy-nosed about her. What a read! This has something for everyone, witches, vampires, werewolves, wood nymphs, magic and so much more. Ari Calin has a murder mystery to solve and she intends to do just that. Dubrey has information that can help solve the murders however; Ari arrives and it is already too late and then she sadly loses her good friend Yana. It really is amazing how much you don't pick up the first time you read a book, and it's so great how much more you notice the next time you read it.
